RE: [Zope-dev] [off topic] archives cause spam.
Or spambayes, which plugs in nicely to MS outlook. That said, if email addresses are obscured somehow in the list archives, we all will likely get less spam in our mailboxes in the first place. Install SpamAssassin on your mail server or SAProxy on your client... cheers, Chris _______________________________________________ Zope-Dev maillist - Zope-Dev@zope.org http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://mail.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope )
FWIW, I get very little Spam to this account, which is subscribed to plenty-o-zope lists. At least, very little in comparison with one of my accounts that I seldom use that has somehow ended up on plenty of revolting lists. Apple Mail's spam filter is decent, and nothing ever gets through to this account, but usually around 5 a day find their way around the filter to that other address. And it really is my least public. In other words - munging email address will probably help. But... Spam happens. On Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at 02:29 PM, sean.upton@uniontrib.com wrote:

Well, yes, but removing the e-mail addresses from the archive should be done anyway. OK, for us it's too late, but for new subscribers, it's not. SPAM has for me finally reached a level where I'm thinking of actually doing something about it. It now probably takes a couple of minutes each day to sort out the few non-spam mails that is drowned in the deluge of spam I get every day, and it's getting annoying. (And I don't like SpamAssasin)

Get SpamBayes. Really. It rocks. http://spambayes.sf.net A product that the Python community can be proud of! --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.python.org/~guido/)

What Guido said. Plus, I've yet to see an email address munging scheme that also meant real users could get the email addresses of someone from the archive. Anthony -- Anthony Baxter <anthony@interlink.com.au> It's never too late to have a happy childhood.
