Hi, I'll be at PyCon during the sprints. As promised from the tasks last year, I'd be happy to organize Zope sprinting activity. Who's coming? Who's interested? Any topic suggestions? I am coming to PyCON and planning to stay for sprint (all days). I have two suggestions: 1. Port ZTK to Python 3 2. Port ZTK to PyPy (trunk version is Python 2.7 compatible) I am interested to work on zc.buildout and recipes to port to Python 3. Regards, Baiju M

Right. There's more interest in that from others, too. The whole of ZTK will take a while longer, though, I guess. ;)

Who's coming? Who's interested? Any topic suggestions? Elizabeth Leddy and I will be there and were thinking of doing some work on improving the state of utilities for managing and introspecting the ZODB.

I'll be there all 4 days, focusing on something to do with Zope2/ZTK (but not especially Python 3). Sprint-wise I was thinking of picking out 2-3 powerful, standalone pieces, producing tutorial documentation and a few webpages to hold it, like showcase.zope.org or something.

Now that would be fun - I've always thought the ZODB was cool tech that was under-appreciated outside of the Zope community. I can think of lots of mgmt tools and a few feature additions. I'm also thinking of running three openspace discussions, inviting input and others to help out: 1. Finding your way around the Zope community (for curious outsiders to hear about the various frameworks we have and how they are related) 2. A tour of the major Zope internal subsystems (highlevel intro to the big pieces) 3. Five cool Zope technologies usable outside of Zope2 (to advertise ZTK eggs to non-Zope folk) -Jeff

Me. :)

I was planning to work on getting buildout woring with Python 3 (if it isn't done by then). I'd be up for at least brainstorming a couple of topics: - Better integration between webob and ztk. We're doing more and more bobo projects and I want to integrate our bobo apps with ztk. I really want to get back to the bozo project and maybe someone can help with that, - Simplifying the ZTK and/or blue bream. When we set out to build Zope 3, our mission was to: - Provide or support the same functionality that was in Zope 2. - Provide extreme fine-grained customization support, because people had been asking for that. These goals let us to build a fairly complex system. Further, we over applied the component architecture, in part to prove that it could provide the fine grained customization we thought people wanted. I think there's a lot that's good in the ztk and I'd like to see if we can make it more usable. Note that I'm absolutely *not* talking about packaging. :) Jim -- Jim Fulton http://www.linkedin.com/in/jimfulton

Awesome! I'll make sure to get up to speed on what the issues was with my last attempt, because I forgot as usual. On Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 11:58 AM, Baiju M <baiju.m.mail@gmail.com> wrote:

Excellent! More people interested in this are welcome, I made a roadmap recently, there are tasks that are both simple and very difficult on that one, we can find work for anyone interested. :-) Glad to see so many signing up already, this will be fun! //Lennart

Sorry for not updating earlier - I was recovering from a sickness. Unfortunately that also means I won't be at PyCon at all, including the sprints. I guess you'll see each other anyway. Can someone take the lead and get everyone who's working on Zope stuff to post a quick update here during the sprints on what's going on? Heh, thanks! I'd really badly wanted to be there.
