Well, if you make a directory in the Products folder and put a blank file in there named __init__.py, it becomes a Product. It does nothing whatsoever, but it will appear in the Products folder of the Control Panel. Then you can put an Extensions directory in that folder and use it to store external methods. You can create a number of do-nothing products that will allow you to categorize your external methods. This seems to be what you're trying to do.

In CVS at least (and maybe in stable revs?), Jim F. provided the capability to store external methods within a Product directory's 'Extensions' directory, referenced by an external method in a module with the name "ProductName.ModuleName". So if you've got an extension directory that has lots and lots of external methods from lots and lots of Products, you can break them up and store them in their respective product Extension dirs.

Thanks, (I think). I am not real sure that I want to build Products, though. What I am doing just does not feel reusable enough to justify the effort.
