Jonathan ~

I didn’t have any version of Python installed!  I was wondering about Python.  But since nothing I saw in the installation sequence or the Zope Book said otherwise, I figured maybe it was built into the Zope package.  I guess no one who wrote this stuff ever guessed that anyone would not know something so “obvious”.  So…

  1. I installed Python 2.3.5 (again matching the version on my target server), tried to start the previously installed Zope… and got the same error again.
  2. I uninstalled and reinstalled Zope 2.8.8, and tried to start it and run the ZMI.  Same error (see attachment 02 for the command line results and 03 for the ZMI error).

I have tried to do everything in a very standard way, and my whole system is fairly new, so less likely than some to be contaminated by history.  Any other suggestions?

~ Thanks

What version of python are you running? (you need 2.3.4 or better)

Subject: [Zope] FW: Problem Starting Zope after Installation

Hi Zope ~

I just installed Zope 2.8.8 (version selected to match a server I’m developing for) on my Windows XP machine, using the instructions in the Zope Book (http://www.plope.com/Books/2_7Edition/InstallingZope.stx#0-0), and electing not to run it as a service.  I can’t get it to start – see the attached screen shot for the failure messages.

~ TIA

~ Ken
