I was a big follower of Shane's APE product at one point which aimed to
make switching out storages fairly easy and actually supported a couple
RDBMS'.  My understanding was the main reason Shane abandoned this and
moved to a PostgreSQL only solution was because he required special
features that weren't doable with standardly-supported SQL.
