Even then I had heaps of trouble...

In the end I used the scheme laidout in:
     http://transcyberia.info/archives/12-chroot-plone-buildouts.html

Downloaded the 'lovely.recipe' and 'zope.interface' eggs by hand...
and got a working grok.
