I think the usage of ZODB in CERN's Indico, a web application to
schedule and organize meetings, see
http://cdsware.cern.ch/indico/
is a solid counter-example to that general impression. Maybe Zope
Corporation has more examples of ZODB being used in a non-Zope
settings?
