[ZODB-Dev] ZODB as file system?

With so much being created to enable remote access to file servers (VPN, 
custom web apps for filesystem access, webdav interfaces to samba, etc.) 
wouldn't it just be simpler to make Zope the file server and webdav the 
native file access method.  Here's the question:  Can the ZODB perform on 
that level?  Can it replace a file servers file system?
