Sounds to me like what is actually needed is an abstraction that enables
you to choose on a per-portal basis which of these methods is actually
used.

To stick my oar in, I'd like to be mailed my old password. I don't want
to keep getting new passwords, which I can then loose/forget, just like
I did the first one ;-)

(I like the hint question though ;-)
