I'm probably showing my ignorance here, but isn't meta_type pretty vital for
the portal_catalog?

For example, if you've used the Types-Tool to create several Types based on
the "Document" meta_type, you want to be able to search either for the
individual Types, or for meta_type="Document", to get all of them?

Hope that makes sense?
