"ringpulls which
don't come off the can." I love it.
Anyway, if you're running windows, you can use WebDrive (www.webdrive.com),
which maps a drive letter to webdav and ftp servers. You can then diff
between the file system and zope objects. I used 3.0 briefly and it worked
fine. Version 4.0 is out.
If I could mount a dav drive under linux, I'd be a happy camper (I covet
MacOS X for this).

So, you mean you've got ZODB DTMLMethods?
How about never using anything other than FSObjects? Is there a reason
not to do so? I think they're the best thing since ringpulls which
don't come off the can.
