ok... it *was* silly...
The skins tool in my Plone/CMF has the REQUEST variable set to "plone_skin"
rather than "portal_skin". Using "plone_skin" in my previous example works,
not surprisingly, perfectly.

quick silly question--
(using Zope 2.5.1, CMF 1.3beta, Plone from CVS)
if I have a skin named "bob" (for the sake of arguement), is there any
reason why I can't issue a url such as
http://mysite/mycmfsite/bobs_page?portal_skin=bob
<http://mysite/mycmfsite/bobs_page?portal_skin=bob> in order to have the
page
rendered using the "bob" skin?
Doing so on my site produces no error, but neither does it appear to change
the skin as desired. Note that I *can* go to user preferences and change a
user's skin to "bob" or whatever else I want and it works.... so why not
using the request string???
