[Zope-CMF] how to edit join_form with a form_tool in plone?

Folks, I'm hand-editing the join_form in my plone site with text editor 
to capture new member attributes, and suspecting there has got to be a 
better way.

The original custom/join_form has comments like "HIDDEN VARIABLES FOR 
THE FORM_TOOL -- CUT AND PASTE THESE INTO YOUR FORM ####" -- is this 
FORM_TOOL referring to the Formulator product? If so how can I use that 
to edit my join_form wysiwyg?
