A wide spread bug in browsers, I think:

  Most browsers seem to wait when they receive a 204 ("no content")
  response. In fact, all 2xx codes indicate that the request
  is finished. 

  Zope sends a 204 response when the called object returns
  a Python false value.

  I cannot tell you why your object does this.
