Dieter and Tres thanks. As you see from my later posting, I did eventually
figure out what was going on. I then started to wonder about ordering of
imports, and whether the patch was only working by luck.

The reason I didn't just change document_edit is that this would have put
the escape codes in the editable Structured Text. The monkey patch only
modified the HTML that resulted from processing the Structured Text.
