[Zope-CMF] ZOPE ZCatalog problem

I have an older ZOPE 2.3.3 instance running in my
Production environment.
Upgrading at this point is not possible until someone
decides to spend some money.

Does anyone know why the ZCatalog object would not
work at the root of the site and yet all the sub
Folder objects (that contain a ZCatalog object) work
as designed.  As designed meaning... when I "Find
Objects > Find and catalog > All types" at the root
ZCatalog, I get error'ed-out.  This does not happen
with the sub Folder object > ZCatalog.

Any help greatly appreciated :)
