Maybe, you read the "Acquisition" section in

  <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html>

When you understand it, you can emulate the acquisition lookup yourself.

There is also a nice script "showaq" from Shane (posted to a mailing
list -- search the archive). It shows you the acquisition structure
of objects. Analysing its implementation might be instructive.
