[Zope-Coders] drowning in a sea of expats

Hi there,

The expat situation in Zope is rather complicated:

Python 2.1 comes with a expat:

  lib/python2.1/lib-dynload/pyexpat.so
  used by lib/python2.1/xml/parsers/expat.py

I don't know where the actual expat is here, perhaps linked into pyexpat.so.

  Which version is this?

Zope itself comes with an expat:

  lib/python/Shared/DC/xml/pyexpat

Undetermined version, but fairly old; MPL licensed it seems, and
floating around 1.1 or 1.2.. What uses this?

ParsedXML comes with yet another expat:

  Products/ParsedXML/Expat (for pyexpat)
  Products/ParsedXML/Expat/lib (for expat itself)

This is version 1.95.2 (in the ParsedXML CVS). This is the latest
released version. ParsedXML seems to need some of its features.

This is Too Many Expats. :) There's probably another one in pyxml..
What shall we do with this?

ParsedXML apparently needs some features in 1.95.2, so it seems hard
to avoid this one. I'm *still* trying to find a windows compiled version
of PyExpat to release a binary Windows version of ParsedXML -- can
someone help me?

Regards,

Martijn
