I had no problems with IE6 either.  However, if I forced IE's encoding to
UTF-7, I got a screen that looked very much like the JPEG Erik attached.

Since "+" is a "shift into bizarro mode" <wink> character in UTF-7, and "-"
one way to get out of that mode, it's not surprising that B+600-1 would get
displayed as

    B gibberish 1

in UTF-7.  See RFC 1642 for details.
