Ah - that repeated message, earlier today - i was assuming it was a rare 
write-conflict that caused the transaction to retry a few times.  
Unfortunately, the email send is part of the transaction - hence repeated 
sends.  I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often.

Yes, there is a fix, having the mail send happen later in the commit, but
who has time to implement the fix?  (That's not purely a rhetorical 
question - a patch would be happily welcomed.)
