2.5.1 has worked flawlessly for me under Win 95, Win 98, Win 98 SE, and Win XP. This issue needs deeper investigation before anything can be done to solve it.
Have you tried with 2.6?

this is actually the same as Collector #452, but i couldnt respond there...
so, i tried with python 2.1.3, but it's nearly the same. it's a bit better (freezes 3 out of 5 startup instead of 4 out of 5 :P)
what can be the problem? what windows version is known to work flawlessly?
