Andreas, have you considered making your ReST integration an add-on 
product rather than changing Zope?  You'd be able to evolve the product 
independently of Zope (meaning you can release it sooner), you wouldn't 
have to use a branch, and you wouldn't have to merge your changes into 
Zope.  If done well, it might become a core product of Zope.  What do 
you think?
