[Zope-Coders] merge topicindex/pathindex changes to 2.7 branch?

Hi folks,

I'd like to roll another beta of Zope 2.7 today and I'm trying to figure
out the differences between the trunk and 2.7 just in case anybody
missed a merge.

Andreas, you committed some changes to topicindex and pathindex on the
trunk that didn't get merged to the 2.7 branch. Was this intentional? 
Are there any backwards compatibility issues that would prevent me from
merging the changes into the 2.7 branch?

If I don't hear from you by the time I need to roll the beta, I won't do
the merge and I'll release the beta without the changes; we can merge
the fixes into the subsequent beta if it makes sense then.
