This violates "least surprise" a bit:  most people doing ./configure &&
make' *expect* to see lots of output streaming by.  In particular, the
'-q' option suppresses compiler warnings, which is not a good thing for
people building on less common platforms, for whom such warnings are
important "spoor" when backtracking a bandersnatch.
