What is the current state of the solution of this problem? During
the migration of site from FieldIndexes to DateIndexes I ran into
the same problems. I would be fine to have a clean solution for Zope 2.7/
Python 2.3.2. People should be able to drop their FieldIndexes, create
a new DateIndex and reindex to migrate.

Speaking of indexes: it is currently impossible in the CMF to specify
a ZCTextIndex inside enumerateIndexes(). So when you create a new
CMF site the old crappy TextIndexes are used (which sucks). Btw.
using TextIndexNG in enumerateIndexes() works fine (*wink*).
