Well, if this is important for you, I'd suggest proxying Zope through Apache and actually using mod_gzip and mod_deflate.

I don't see a lot of point in re-inventing wheels so I'm gonna reject this, but if you come up with patches and unit-tests that provide this functionality, then please submit them as a new issue and I'll merge them in myself :-)

Would it be possible to have compression on the pages as they are transmitted to the browser using Content-Encoding/Transfer-Encoding. Just like the mod_gzip and mod_deflate modules for apache does.
