It surely doesn't work for FCGI. About FTP I was guessing by roughly browsing the source code (and I missed).

I think this is untrue.  At least for FTP.  Accessing filelike objects via FTP that return a filestream iterator works for me under 2.7.3.  What leads you to believe it was forgotten about?

Recently added filestream_iterator handling is implemented only for HTTP protocol. Unfortunately someone has forgotten about FCGI and FTP.
