unixODBC happens to be an ODBC manager that is maintained and supported
by EasySoft - I doubt that you can get better support for it from
anyone else (in fact, it comes with the Oracle driver).

If you are interested in bypassing unixODBC and talking to the
EasySoft driver directly, we can also provide with such a setup.

We currently require iODBC or unixODBC installed on the *nix machine
just to make configuration easier on the user. mxODBC itself does
work directly with most ODBC drivers (in fact, EasySoft advertises
this setup on their web-site). You don't really need the
extra layer of an ODBC manager, but it makes things easier to
administer and maintain.
