Actually I was just looking at that today.  Seems to me that
copy_of_somename is a good idea and copies the behavior of Windows.  It
will only (AFAIK) change the name to copy_of_somename when you paste an
item in a folder where an item by the same name already exists.  In some
cases, of course, that is not the intended behavior.  An extra dialog
could be added fairly easily which asks the user what is wanted when
duplicates exist.
