Well stated.  Doing a CVS checkout is obviously a perfectly safe
activity -- you'll just get a bunch of code in a directory different
from your live app.  You can then make areas to work in, browse the
code, look at the CVS logs, etc.

Its only when you connect this code to your existing setup that you need
to be careful.
