It sounds like you are trying to call a module instead of a function...
for example, you're doing something like:

import ZODB.FileStorage
f = ZODB.FileStorage('file')

instead of:

import ZODB.FileStorage.FileStorage
f = ZODB.FileStorage.FileStorage('file')
