there is boaconstructor which is an IDE that can be used with Zope. It is a
(partial) substitute for the ZMI, with a target audience of developers, not
content managers nor end users.

There was also the now (AFAIK) defunct Zope Fat Client.

In conclusion, the only non-web GUI that has been usable, that I know of, is
Boa Constructor.
