there is boaconstructor which is an IDE that can be used with Zope. It is a
(partial) substitute for the ZMI, with a target audience of developers, not
content managers nor end users.

more info over at
http://boa-constructor.sourceforge.net/

There was also the now (AFAIK) defunct Zope Fat Client.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/zfc

also, various links found at this address:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=zope+fat+client

In conclusion, the only non-web GUI that has been usable, that I know of, is
Boa Constructor.

Browsers for the ZODB:

PyTree.py
http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2001-April/010880.html
http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/pyTree

Finally, PyFrame might be waht we are looking for, though the site is really
slow tonight:

http://www.pyframe.com
