[Zope] Setting up variables

this is probably remarkably simple, but how do you create a variable 
with zope that would act as a counter within a page i.e a variable 
that could be incremented in a loop. I know you can use the 
changeProperty method on a property item, but this will not work if 
more than one person is viewing the site at once.
