[Zope] - Embedding Perl in Zope/Python?

We've had a number of requests to be able to access Perl from Zope.

I assume that Perl has an embedding API. I'm guessting that it 
should be possible to "embed" (at least some part of) Perl in 
Python and make it available as a Zope extension facility.
Alas, I haven't had time to investigate this.

Has anyone ever tried embedding perl in Python?
