[Zope] virtual ISP (verio) and Zope

Depends on what is Verio(sorry but I've never used them).

If you have the root access, the answers are

I assume I need to install Zope and run the Zserver for this to work.  : yes
>If Zserver  doesn't work will I screw up my site?  :NO

The problem(as far as I can see) is
Unless you use pcgi, your Zserver will listen to a port other than standard(for httpd) port 80, for the port 80 surely is allocated to the web server(Apache) used by your ISP. then the url to your site is looking not so cute and your ISP perhaps has some policy on alloctating the ports otherwise many of their customers will kill each other for the ports.

But if you serve Zope site through pcgi, you need to edit configuration file for your virtual host, but this right is usually reserved for the sysadmin. I do not know whether there is a way to configurate the virtual hosts in a distributed way. I guess it is possible, but WILL cause security problem.

Why don't you just use Zope hosting providers listed in www.zope.org? Or just ask Verio folks to edit the config file for you?
