[Zope] repost: Zope on Windows 2000 won't start

OK, I've installed the latest stable release of Python for Win32 (1.5.2) and
allowed all of the defaults to carry on. This included TCL/TK. It all went
without error. But if I try to start IDLE I get the following error, which
is followd by the python shell window:

Application popup: pythonw.exe - Unable To Locate DLL : The dynamic link
library tcl80.dll could not be found in the specified path C:\Program
Files\Python\DLLs;.;C:\WINNT\System32;C:\WINNT\system;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\syst
em32;C:\WINNT;C:\WINNT\System32\Wbem;D:\MSSQL7\BINN;C:\PROGRA~1\ULTRAE~1.

Whatever that all means I have no idea. Maybe there is a problem with
win32service as Brian wondered... but I also tried running the start.bat
that Zope provides and it didn't suceed i starting Zope either.

As a next step I've tried to uninstall Zope and reinstall, not choosing to
run Zope as a service. I had some problems with the uninstall though, which
I attempted via the usual control panel interface. The uninstall went
through without apparent error, but after it was completed and a full reboot
I found that the Zope directory structure and files were 100% intact (maybe
this is intentional?) and that the Zope service was still listed as set to
start automatically (although it still wouldn't start). I then proceeded to
reinstall Zope, choosing to start it manaully. I end up with the same thing
that I started with, a non-functional installation of Zope. Again, this was
a fresh install of W2K, all of the old registry values that existed with NT
were wiped out.

I have to conclude that there does seem to be some sort of problem with
Zope/Python and W2K, even if I'm the only one lucky enough to have run into
it so far <g>. So I'd still appreciate any assistance from folks who know
how to test this installation further.

Yes - that would be the first place to look for a clue. We haven't
tried Zope out internally on win2K yet, so I can't really speak
intelligently on the matter right now. But, since that's never
stopped me before... :^)

The win32 service support is based on Mark Hammonds win32 extensions
(win32service in particular). A good place for an enterprising
individual to start would be to take Zope out of the picture by
installing a clean Python1.5.2 on win2K with the win32 extensions
and see if any of Mark's win32 service demos (I believe there is
at least one) will run. If anyone takes me up on this, I'd be
_very_ interested in the results (as I won't have time for a while
yet to get to this myself).

Hope this helps!
