You're right, of course. We are *extremely* lucky to have Jeff Rush and
the Debian package maintainer(s) to do some of our configuration
management dirty work. A thousand kudos to both of them. I don't mean
to slight their efforts in any way. This was really stupid of me.
A more proper response in this case would have been to suggest using Red
Hat or Debian and the appropriate package. We hope to be able to
support platform-specific native install mechanisms more thoroughly in
the future. For now, due to resource shortages, we can't and we're
relying on the package maintainers to do so.
But, to be honest, at the end of the day, I personally don't care if you
run Zope on Linux or BeOS or MacOS X or on the fender of a Buick, I just
want you to be happy and productive.
