[Zope] LDAP won't work - yes I've applied the patch

I've already littered the whole ldap productg with
_allow_access_to_unprotected_subobjects=1's, to no avail.  Besides,
with the patch applied, the product claims to work with 2.2. I guess
my next step will be to email the author.
