[Zope] slow access

how come after half a day of testing the website suddenly slows down?
and sometimes the server just slows down on its access. we have a link to a
mysql database. i notice that if i visit a root folder that doesn't have a
database connection it is fast. is that it?
how do i make it consistent in its speed?
