It is well possible that they do not support caching.

But it is easy to wrap them in a DTML method, which is cachable.

    External Method    f(a,b,c,d)

    DTML Method	       f_:     <dtml-var "f(a,b,c,d)">

You use "<url_to_f_container>/f_" instead of
"<url_to_f_container>/f".
