Hi Oliver 
This is probably not the list to ask this question but from memory.
If you are  using postfix
Edit the file /etc/postfix/aliases
find this line the line below should read.
# Person who should get root's mail
root:          yourusername


Then run the newaliases program to commit the changes and
away you go.

I'm working form memory so check the man page 
%man postfix

should be almost the same for sendmail once again check the man page  or the 
bsd hand book.
