I have a possible solution for you!  Does your script use "PYTHONHOME"?
If so, replace it with a different name, like "Z2DIR" or something.
Apparently, PYTHONHOME messes up Python 2.0 and above.  I only ever used
the 'start' script under Python 1.5.2, so I didn't see the version with
"INST_HOME".
