What version of Zope/PageTemplates are you using?  I'm pretty sure this is 
fixed in later versions of PageTemplates, which are subsequently bundled with 
later versions of the Zope 2.5 branch.

Not sure which versions are the newer ones (I'm sure someone will enlighten 
us ;-) ), but basically it sounds like you need to update your PageTemplates 
to a newer version.
