NB I'm working from memory here, so minutiae may be incorrect.

I had a similar problem a while back where Zope wouldn't let me modify
some objects as it said they had been altered in a version which I'd
deleted. This was some months ago and (I think) I was using a flavour of
Zope 2.3 at the time. 

IIRC, the eventual solution was to export the parent folder, rename the
problem one  and import the exported .zexp. This removed the locks and
all was well, at which point I deleted the problem folder. And stopped
using versions, which seem like a great idea, but it's easy to confuse
them: IIRC moving objects within a version was a recipe for trouble.
