Ick! This is _all_ wrong ;-)

You want:

<td><a href="dummy" tal:attributes="href item/absolute_url"
                    tal:content="item/title">Dummy Title</a></td>

In addition:

<tal:content="item/title">

...is very wrong ;-)

If you want to do it like that, you need:

<tal:x replace="item/title" />
