This is just a rant about how I tried to save some money and got a
hosting from anon Zope hosting company - that offered cgi's and
allowed me to run Zope behind apache.
First of all I had terrible problems with the http basic auth, since
it did not work at all. I mean not at all. I thougth I was so clever
when I uploaded an old Data.fs that had cookie crumbler set so I could
authenticate myself with cookies via form. Yeah.
Well. Everything is sweet - expect that I can't do anything really
fun. Like upload content to my site via webdav, since I have only that
pcgi connection or ftp to the server - but not to the Zope itself.
Then as a last thing I tried to use ZSyncer to upload content from my
own machine to the hosted Zope but no. The same authentication problem
bites me again.
I feel like kicking myself. Saving money in hosting also ties my hands
from doing advanced and fun things that I would have liked to do. Damn
me. Damn Apache. Damn pcgi. ,-)
If anyone has any ideas how to get over that pcgi-problem, that would
be appreciated. Otherwise - remember that the Zope hosting costs a
little bit more for a reason.
