-) It opens the possibility for the objects (documents) to offer the 
data to be cataloged independend from the presentation - as opposed to 
search engines like htdig etc. Filtering out html/wml/xml/pdf/... markup 
doesn't belong to the indexing engine IMHO, the object itself knows best 
  how its content should be indexed.
