Maybe you should checkout MailBoxer before starting to code your own 
mailinglist-manager. MailBoxer provides a stable 
mailinglist/newsletter/mailarchive-framework for Zope and can be used 
out of the box as mailinglist-manager for even large lists...:)

The German Zope User Group (www.dzug.org) uses MailBoxer to run several
