Reading this makes me seem to remember long ago there was a Zope
product which went some distance into letting you run standard python
CGI scripts without modification. I was just looking around for any
info on this, but can't seem to find any. I wonder if someone
remembers where that might be... and whether ViewCVS might work with
it.

I use ViewCVS myself, but under Apache. If you are going to set up
Zope to run behind an Apache server you get the best of both worlds...
you can run your standard CGI from apache, and proxy the rest from
zope through apache.
