[Zope] .htaccess equivalent in zope

Hi,

I have my plone portal set up, but it needs to be restricted in an
.htaccess like way. So, when someone tries to reach this site, they should
get a password box, and when they are authenticated then they may proceed
and see the Plone portal.

How to do this in Zope?

I deselected the 'Access contents information' and 'view'  checkboxes on
the securitytab of the plone directory object, but that doesn't work.
